Teachers' Handbook
Hello and Welcome to the wonderful world of athletics at Credo High!
Enclosed is a list of the documents your student-athletes, parents and coaches receive prior to the beginning of their participation in athletics. Full copies of these handbooks are available in the office. Some of the documents are given to you as well, mostly as a matter of keeping you aware of the processes surrounding the athletics program, but also as a reminder about the importance of your support in the areas of sportsmanship at athletic contests, student-athlete well being and communication concerning Credo’s goals around competition at the high school level.
To be most clear, we believe that participation in athletics is a significant educational opportunity. Here are some areas of participation presented to parents of our student-athletes.
As the student-athlete enters this learning through adversity experience, it is imperative that he/she be given an adult perspective.
Good sportmanship, leadership, and giving respectin all situations are just a few of the goals which demand parental encouragement in the young student-athlete. Please review your Parents Code of Conduct with your student-athlete.
Participation in athletics is a time management puzzle. Aligning homework with practices, game schedules, family responsibilities, music lessons and community service can easily frustrate a high school person who does not possess the keys to managing all of these events. Please be intentional with your student-athlete about scheduling.
Nutrition and hydration can not be over emphasized. Athletics can make this a tricky proposition, so you have a general hand out to help you with this. Please review it and see if fits with your family’s nutritional values.
Team dynamics and social problem solvingcan include working with coaches, referees, teammates, other parents and teachers. This means communication! Take a look at the hand out, let your student-athlete where your methods are congruent with the article and where they diverge. This will give him/her valuable skills in the coming seasons.
Credo High School needs you to help! Transportation, team communication, game management, media reporting and other tasks are opportunities for parents to support our program. Please show your enthusiasm by stepping out into the world of athletics.
Last, athletics are fun! They inspire young people to focus on goals, to apply formulas in real life adversity, to grow outside of themselves into the world. Remember to enjoy them with your child!
These are areas of participation for teachers as well! You are so important to the success of this wonderful world of athletics, thank you for your support.
Warmly,
Credo High School Athletics
